Aftermarket Stereo Deck

I am going to be buying a new ford explorer very soon, probably today or tomorrow and I have a question that I'm hoping somebody can help me with really quick. I'm planning on getting the limited or eddie bauer version with the steering wheel controls for the stereo deck, but I think I am going to be putting in an aftermarket stereo deck. Is there any way to get the steering wheel controls to work with any aftermarket decks out there or will I pretty much just be deactivating those buttons by putting something new in?
