tranny help plzzzzzzz

Ok my girlfriends got a 97 z24 auto cavi. Yesterday she was driving it and it startd messing up. It wont go above 40 no matter how much u press on the gas. Also the tranny light and the ETS light came on. So I thought I would check the level of tranny fluid no luck, theres no dip stick. So how do u check it? I put a quat of fluid in and it shifted fine for about an hour then startd to act up again. So I added a second quart turnd the car on and off 3 times and the light went off. Now today after abut 2 hours of driving the light came back on and startd acting up again. Now the car started doing this right after we took a sharp turn all 3 times. So I was wondering could it be somthing besides the tranny or the tranny itsself. Also we have only had the car for about 2 weeks so could it just be really really low on tranny fluid, and how do i check it? The guy we got it from said he just replaced all the fluids in it so could he have maybe now put in enough and if so how much can these trannys hold? Thanx all Ken

Not sure... but over-filling your fluids can certainly add to your problems.

ok took it and got the codes it was spitting out. They said that the shift sol. circuit A and B were both coming up. So does that mean a tranny rebuild or what? Just wondering cause all the shops are closed today. Thanx all Ken

To check the fluid you have to have the car running at normal operating temperature. Your car must be level when you check it so dont park it on a hill or jack it up. crawl underneath and you will see a bolt on the front of the tranny just above the pan. Take it out and if tranny fluid squirts out you are ok on fluid. If not add fluid. I dont know how much it fluid it can hold.
