First car. Scion xB vs Chrysler PT Cruiser

I'm looking at buying my first car and wondering which one you guys think is better, the scion xb or the chrysler pt cruiser. Space is important to me and so is it being economical. I know the scion gets better mileage but im wondering which one needs the least maintenance and which is more fun and an overall better car. thanks

the scion is gonna be more reliable IMO seeing as how it's a toyota. if you're looking for a scion with a little fun to it look at the TC, i think they look great, which i can't say about the Xb or the PT, and with the available 30+ accessories available for installation from the factory(ie rims, exhaust tips, lowering springs, and the supposed TRD supercharger that's been in the works.) i don't see how you could really go wrong.

i've been inside a pt cruiser, there isnt as much room as it would look. its very cramped in there.

and the scion is ugly.

your taste in cars is... questionable

Actually I'm going for the Hyundai Elantra, hopefully hatchback. It is 100 times cheaper than the xB and PT, looks 10000 times better, and is a million times better built.

Re: First car. Scion xB vs Chrysler PT Cruiser

First of all, dont even buy a Chrysler.. My dad has 3 cars made by Chrysler and all they do is break down all the time.

The Scion xB looks like a god damn refrigerator for christ sake.

The Hyundai Elantra is just a little shitbox that has absolutely no space for anything at all.

Hmm.. why dont you just get a Honda Element? It doesnt have the best looks, but it has more space than all the 3 cars listed above, and it looks a hell lot better than the god damn xB. Just my

Go with the Scion. Very economical, very reliable, plus it has the most space of any of the cars listed. Looks is subjective, but if you like it, go for it.

All I'm going to say is that you're lying or your father doesn't know how to maintain a car. All my family has owned are Chrysler products and we haven't had many problems that weren't driver related.

The PT would be just as reliable as the xB as long as you maintain it correctly. However, I would say that you shouldn't buy either. Neither are paticularly cool cars. They are both pretty ugly. Also, if you ask me they are one step away from being a mini-van.

My suggestion would be to get the Scion tC. That is one of the best values for money. They also look pretty damn good and there is a growing aftermarket in case you want to make it faster.

PT Cruiser > bicycle > walking > city bus > xB

Dont tell me my father doesnt know how to maintain a car you assbag, he probably has 10x more car experience than you will ever have so keep your mouth shut. Point being, Chrysler LACKS quality and everything on their cars fall apart, I know from experience since we own 3 cars (2 Dodge, 1 Jeep). Actually, most american cars today lack quality and thats why Jap and Euro cars are soo much better, and its the truth.

My family has had nothing but trouble with their chrysler vehicles also. I would suggest a used accord wagon or a subaru legacy wagon.

Re: First car. Scion xB vs Chrysler PT Cruiser

Because, Japanese cars really aren't ahead as they were 10-15 years ago, at least on entry level cars which I have more experience anyway. The motors and drivetrains in the last few years of the american cars are equal to the japanese equivalant. I have helped my friends fix their honda's (not making a hit on honda, they make a good car just most of my friends used to own them) as well as I have fixed my own cars, and other american cars. Cars break, its in their nature. Now I am not calling any of these cars unreliable but in my own personal experience I have not witnessed any companies major edge in reliability. I like honda I do, but they aren't so much better than other companies. I am actually trying to get a civic when I get home for a second car. I know they can run for hundreds of thousands of miles, but so can all cars anymore. Until this car I own now, all my cars were well over 100000 miles and in the 87 ranger's case over 270000 miles. The ranger never had anything wrong with aside from a stuck brake caliper one time and it was on its 3rd clutch. It had a 2.9liter V6 and a 5 speed manual. Now anyone who says that all japanese cars are better quality and more reliable than all american cars are simply being clueless. I an not calling you stupid or talking down on you, but all cars are only as reliable as the person taking care of them. Of course there are some cars with known problems, but I don't label their whole country of origin as unreliable crap for quality car makers.
