Assuming you have a 4 cylinder, the other two plugs are actually under the coil-pack and bracket assemblies. In order to better manage the spark timing in your Galant, Mitsubishi has implemented a distributorless ignition system. This system uses a coil-over-plug ignition coil and the Engine Control Unit (ECU) to manage which spark plug fires and in what order.
To check/replace these plugs, first remove the spark plug wire and electrical connector from the coil-pack, then unscrew the coil-pack from the bracket on the cylinder head. The pack should then pull off just like a regular spark plug boot. If replacing your plugs, don't forget to use anti-seize compound on the threads and always use the correct torque! (18 ft-lbs.) Hope this helps! |

Sorry about the confusion. The three plugs for bank 1 (rear bank in the eclipse) are actually underneath the intake plenum. You'll have to remove the intake plenum to get to the spark plug wires on the V6. I wish there were an easier way, trust me!
Here is an excellent walk through of the process. http://home.pacbell.net/fong8/gstuff/tjc_plenum.htm Hope this helps! |
