Unhappy Passat V6 4 Motion won't start

Intermittently my 2002 V6 will not start. Cranks over fine, but will not fire. I can smell fuel if I crank for a little time, so it seems like it is flooding. When it does fire it takes a few seconds for it to run properly on all cylinders.

The problem has only recently occurred, after 75,0000 Km, and it happens on about every 10th start.

Is this some problem with the injectors, or perhaps some controller, or maybe an intermittently faulty O2 sensor ??

- - and some more information

All the dash indicator lights seem to function normally, and there is no warning light indicating any problem. It doesn' seem to matter whether the engine is hot or cold, it is intermittently random.

Having read some of the other posts, I wonder if it might be an ignition coil problem. Was there a recall on ignition coils for the V6 ?

What should I expect a diagnostic check show with this sort of problem ?

Any help appreciated.

Re: - - and some more information

Well, - - - with a bit of luck the problem might be resolved. Happened to take the car to a service centre, and got them to do a diagnostic check. The disgnostic found a faulty temperature sensor. They replaced the sensor right away.

While it has only benn 24 hours or so since, at least the car has not shown any signs of poor starting.

The service centre say they have replaced a good number of these temperature sensors.

Hopefully the poor starting days are over.
