cheap mods

anyone know of any mods that can be done to a stock 2.2 just by tuneing the stock parts not adding anything new
ex bypassing the heater core ( can give u like 30hp) has anyone done this??

i also heard that on some cars there is a coolent line that goes into the intake manifod and if u bypass it will give u more hp.

has anyone done this or knows any more for a 96 cavalier 2.2

30 hp from bypassing a heater core? Thats a 26% increase man, I doubt thats going to happen. I would do the intake, exhaust, etc and if its not fast enough and your pockets are deep, look into boost and giggle juice or sell it.

Re: cheap mods

taking out the heater core meaning no more ac compressor would mean less strain on the engine cause there would be one less pulley. And we all know what happens when a engine doesn’t have to work as hard

ok that right there is so wrong its not funny. Originally i wrote this flamming you, but i changed it so i didnt.

AC units have whats called an Idler Pulley. This means that the AC Pulley spins freely when its not being used. So if your AC is off, it takes almost no energy to move the pulley, you can spin it with your hands freely. Removing the AC only reduces the weight in the car, about 50lbs or so. Turning the AC on only takes about 10 HP. So no way in hell removing the AC gave you 30HP.

UNLESS he replaced the compressor with a low powered supercharger.....

Re: cheap mods

I bypassed my AC compressor by just changing serpentine belt with the smaller one. I didn't notice much difference except that the horrible squealing noise from my compressor went away.

Doesn't the airconditioner automatically disengage to give you more power above a certain RPM?

i bypassed my s/c by using a smaller belt, i noticed a decent gain, but i also did it with a light weight, underdriven crank pulley, but even those together didn't add up to 30 hp.

you mean AC right? Uhh and just to let you know, those mods prolly gave you 3 HP at most. AGAIN REMOVING THE AC DOES NOT FREE UP ANY HP! ANd your ass is not a dynometer.
