U-Bent Delete, does it actually do anything?

OK, folks

I've been around here for a little while, and I know, all of you GP fans swear by having a U-Bend delete...but

Now, I spoke to 4 professionals, one of which who "have built racecars for years," and ALL of them said that removing the u-bend will do nothing. Now I know by taking it out, it wont make the car go faster, or anything like that...but then, is it really necessary to take out.

What if i get a thrasher cold air box w/ a K&N filter, I mean, I assume that the U-Bend will cause problems, but, I was told otherwise...

...so.....the u-bend...does removing it do anything, or is it a waste of money?

In my opinion the u-bend delete is just a step in the total process of modding your car. In itself it may be worthless. No significant horsepower increase. However, taken in totality with other mods it probably makes a difference. For one, it doesn't make sense to have a hi-flow CAT, 2.5 inch downpipe or turbo mufflers if you have a bottleneck in the exhaust or something preventing flow or increasing backpressure.

The u-bend delete will not cause any problems with adding a Thrasher CAI.

Thrasher CAI, DHP v1.0 PCM,
3.25 SC pulley, CAIT GMAF, Hi-Flow CAT,
u-bend delete, 160 TS, ZZP Stage 1 TB,
TB spacer, MSD 8.5mm wires, Autolite 104s,
Goodyear Gatorback Serp. & SC Belt,
Nitto NT555R Drag Radials

God, I was wondering when someone would give the right answer to that. Thanks Bob.

if your only adding a cold air box i wouldnt bother, it's not too bad stock..but if you mod more, plan on getting rid of it, either welding a peice on or going with a whole new downpipe and high flow cat

I've heard that it helps your gas mileage a little bit, dunno if thats true. Thats the main reason I'm looking at getting mine done, but 5 more hp doesn't hurt.

its not much back pressure stock, you wont make up for the gas money by paying to have it removed probably..i wouldnt worry about it unless you plan on modding heavily
