Fiero With MR2 Scoops

I Wanted To Know If MR2 Scoops (like the scoops on this MR2 http://www.cardomain.com/ride/756979 ) Would Fit Right On A Fiero GT Back ???...But I Know Theres Gonna Be Fabrication Involved...But As I Looked At The Backs Of Both Cars I Kinda Notice That These Scoops Might Not Sit Flush Along The Sail Panels & The Roof Of The Fiero...But I Dunno Tho Thats Why I'm Askin You Guys Cause Mayb Someone Has Tried It...And Also Just Incase....If The Scoops Can Be Mounted On Da Back...Would The Engine Hood Be Able To Open Like Stock Or Would The Scoops Cause It To Not Open All The Way??....But Thanks For Lookin At My Situation & Thanks For The Help[color=orange][font=comic sans ms][size=2]

There would definitely be some fabrication involved. I must ask the question "why?". The vent plates in the P-body are there to allow air/heat to escape from the engine compartment. As hot air rises, it would be counter-productive to force air through the top. It could actually create a high pressure area inside the engine compartment. Not desirable.
Due to the heat problems the '84 suffered, Pontiac engineers worked hard and long to effectively fix the problem. The vent plates work.
Or is it a "looks" thing?

Thanks for the help first off....i'm not really worried about the fabrication because i have family down here thats into fabrication & what not....but the reason for this "idea" that i have is because my intention is to bring as much air into the engine bay cause when i first looked at the Fiero GT i noticed that the cooling fan is in the front with the radiator & not in the back with the engine....but if their is a cooling fan in the engine bay then i missed it....because Fieros are known for catching on fire & i'v seen the reason why but i think that not getting enough air is another reason too..but i wanted to use the scoops to bring in as much air as possible for cooling & also for performance...cause the more air the better....& plus i think it would look nice....lol....but what the idea i had was to install scoops & at the back end of the hood fabricate a air escape vent sloping at a decline the length of the hood so when the air comes down the scoops & cools the engine & everything in the engine bay but at the same time the air coming down the scoops helps push out the hot air & heat out of the custom escape vents...but this just a idea in my imagination that i think could work if tried...but i just want other peoples preceptives before i think about trying this.....but any more information & tips & what not i can use let the me know.....thanks for the help[color=orange][font=times new roman][size=2]

i have an 85 fiero and im thiniking fo getting these scoops for it...im not sure of your year but these would fit an 85 gt like i have....

eh...air for the intake comes in from below and the side little scoop, like mrpbody said forcing air down into the stream of air moving up could cause a lot of unwanted air pressure in the engine compartment. they do look kinda nice, although thats on a notchback.

i believe the problem with them catching fire is the 4 cylinder tended to throw a rod into the oil pan? something like that, havent read up on it in a while, but they fixed that problem in 85 (not by fixing the faulty mechanism, but by installing a metal plate instead

no the main problem with those engines isnt air flow, its oil flow

Good call! Yes, the "fire problem" was related to the connecting rods, and blowing hot oil all over the exhaust when the rod let go. The problem is also pretty much restricted to '84 and '85 4-cylinder models. GM insisted Pontiac use known-to-be-cracked connecting rods from Rochester. They actually shipped them back once, only to be returned. It is suspected, Chevy had something to do with it, as the new '84 Corvette was in so deep, it HAD to sell. Whether or not Fiero sales would have impacted 'vette sales is doubtful, but Chevy wasn't taking any chances. The same politics is what killed the '82 Turbo T/A.
And yes, the air intake for the the engine is outside, on the lower driver's side, just forward of the rear wheels. The scoops would have zero effect on intake. FWIW, Holley made an add-on scoop for the intake. You could get lucky and find one.

not sure if ill have any air problems....but they really look good...and i thiniking of installing neon lights for show in side them...

i was thinking of takeing the intake scoop from the drivers side and putting anouther one on the passenger side just for airflow into the engine compartment from the side, that shouldnt interfear with the other set up of allowing the hot air to exhast threw the top. just my idea.

well installing a vent on the passenger side wont do anything because that area isnt open the the engine compartment. And forcing air down into the engine area from above is a bad idea, it wont exactly create a bad area of preasure it will actually reduce tire grip the faster you go. the downward travelling air will need to escape somehow and if you block the vents the air will escape under the car creating lift. think of an airplanes wing it pushes air down to go up, same idea minus the wing. but i guess you could do one of two things. hook the air intake tube to the roof scoop and make one scoop non-functional--but then not air gathers in the engine compartment. idea two add both scoops and fiberglass in some vents in the middle of the deck lid which would have added style

I have seen kits to make the force the air into the intake, and they prove quite useful but to each his own.... and the fire problem was only on 84 4cyls due to th connecting rod mentioned above....

Hmm... I know this is somewhat off topic... but how well do you think some Testarosa style side vents would work? Overkill or better? lol Cause I couldn't help but notice a junked Testarosa in a local car lot, and well they said I could take any body parts for $100!!

So maybe a little cutting and cropping? haha Well... just thought I should throw this in.
