Got the flowmaster on, a bit disopointed... :(

I just got the 80 series crossflow on her, its supposted to have 2 1/2 pipes, but instead of shelling out $75 for each of the two pipes, i just got a couple of $10 adapaters, and welded on the stock 2 and a quarter pipes, everything is fine there, turned on the key.. wasnt impressed at all.
I noticed a bit of increased acceleration, and it does sound of a deeper tone, but nothing close to what they claim...
Do you guys think that if i did put the 2 1/2's on it like its supposted to be, it would sound any better (louder, etc) is that my problem?
I couldnt see how increase the pipe size by just a half of a half of an inch would help... Whats the problem here.. wish you guys could hear it becuase it doesnt sound anything special, sounds good, wont deny that but not what i was expecting, from what ive heard from other cars with flowmasters on...
Its a 92 RS if that is needed...

Re: Got the flowmaster on, a bit disopointed... :(

it's the stock pipes. I'm very happy with my flowmaster regardless of what anyone else says. I got the 3" system tho, sounds great and performs great.

Re: Got the flowmaster on, a bit disopointed... :(

Flowmaster just does not sound that good on F-body cars.... sound great on 4.6 and 5.0 Mustangs though.

Actually the 2.5" pipes will give you a bit deeper tone and a bit more aggressive sound too.

hmm. so what, id be better off switching the pipes, or getting another muffler all together? Pretty close to the same price.

Re: Got the flowmaster on, a bit disopointed... :(

i beg to differ i have a set of headers, high flow cat, and the 3in flowmaster american thunder, which has the 80 seriese muffler. Im quite pleased with it. but then i like the exhaust note with a bit more crackle in it. magnaflow would definatly have a deeper mellow tone, but there is nothing wrong with a flowmaster. my car sounds aweseom.

Re: Got the flowmaster on, a bit disopointed... :(

Only thing I ever thought flowmasters sounded good on what 5.0 stangs, I have borla on my LT1 which does have a different sound then typical sbc would have but I am very happy with it.

They say this is the "highest" agressive sounding muffler, both inside and out, with a real deep tone..
The deepness is there.. just if you farted you wouldnt be able to hear the muffler over it...

Re: Got the flowmaster on, a bit disopointed... :(

i thought magnaflow was more for the ricer cars, that have that large tin can hanging off the back of it, with the popcorn machiene sound...
As for borta, ive heard of them, flowmaster was my first choice though, aparently it was a bad one.
I couldnt see how increaseing the pipe size by just a tiny bit would increase the sound that much.. its real quiet, alsmot quieter then the stock muffler, but with a deeper tone.
Also smells of strong gas now everytime i get out of the car...

It's the pipes....
The American Thunder System has a 3 in catback pipe and the muffler is a 5 x 10 case then the dual 3in pipes out. The pipe size and the larger muffler case is what makes this system roar. The 80 series is a 4x9.5 case so it's not as deep or loud.

I won't run nothing but Flows, The other systems out do nothing for me, Either too mellow to the point I can't hear them, or it's thin and raspy.

You said it's on a 92 RS? ARe we talking a V8 or 6. I had a 80s on my old 91RS V8 and sounded amazing.
Do the pipes exit past the rear bumper? If so cut'em so they don't and use the turn downs so it looks stock, This will amplify the sound and deepen it. Go with a larger 3in catback pipe and at least 2.5 pipe out the muffler.

I agree with Luos on this, Magnaflow> everyone else.

Especially after seeing Luos' T/A video, and hearing his car on my crappy speakers was enough to know that it sounds nice on his car.

Not yet.
I had a Magnaflow catback for the car, but I sold it to run true duals. I will be running Magnaflow mufflers on the duals though!!!

I have heard Magnaflow on the LSx based cars. Sounds as good as the higher priced catbacks. Plus it flows damn near the same.
