Re: New 96 owner 4wd question

No, but hit the 2wd button only with your foot off the gas. Don't do it when accelerating.

Re: New 96 owner 4wd question

In the good old days of completley manual transfer cases, yeah, rolling in reverse helps in engaging/disengaging. But these push button trucks just need your foot off the gas when you switch between 4-hi and 2-hi. If you are changing into or out of 4-lo, you need to roll the truck at 3-5 MPH with the transmission in neutral before you hit the switch. Or when stationary and in neutral or park, hit the 4-lo button to engage, and again, in neutral and rolling at 3~5 MPH or park, hit any other button to change modes out of 4-lo.

Re: New 96 owner 4wd question

Probably the same reason why my 5300 pound truck says it's 3500 pounds on my registration. Long, long ago, in a typo far-far away in the bowels of your local DMV....

99.... 96....69... It all works for me . Just send more pictures . When I undo 4x4 to 2x4 . I don't do any kind of special foot work , Girlbear. Since these shifting units rely on vacuum and a release of force from either the road surface or transmision speed. It will undo itself when the time is right . Sometimes it could take a couple of minutes or miles . The transfer case should release pretty quick but the indicator on the dash will only change when the front axle is finished as a complete disconnect. Rob
