I doubt that a 3.8L would fit (too big!!). I have heard many times on here of ppl using the 3.0L V6 from the SHO to upgrade and almost always had good results.

3.8L wont fit, at least not without some HUGE amounts of money, and i mean huge. The duratec hardly fits in there as it is. You would need new motor mounts, roll resistors, new engine cradle, custom driveshafts, probably a new smaller weaker tranny to be able to fit it, new wiring harnesses, new engine management. Thats just to list a few.

Yes the 3.0L out of a taurus will fit. Ive done it, as well as many others. However, its not the engine out of the SHO. Its the engine out of a 1999+ Taurus, Sable, Escape, etc. Its the 3.0L duratec. It comes with 200 hp, 200 foot pounds of tq stock. Throw on the 2.5L goodies like the 2.5L heads, intake manifolds, intake, headers, and your easily at 220-240 hp.

honestly, i think the 3.0L V6 has more potential than the 3.8L V6. You get 200 hp from just a straight 3.0L swap or 193 hp from a 3.8L. Not to mention, the engine is probably heavier since its cast iron as apposed to the Taurus aluminum. Double whammy! Most people go with the hybrid 3.0L which is the 3.0L bottom end with the 2.5L heads and intakes, and ive seen those dyno anywhere from 180-210 whp (~210-250 crank hp). You get a little bit more tq out of the 3.8L, but thats nothing to brag about.

Everybody just gets them from a junkyard. They're everywhere since Ford puts them in so many vehicles. Get a 99+ duratec 3.0L. Make sure its NOT the vulcan 3.0L V6. Expect to pay anywhere from $300-700 depending on mileage and which vehicle it came from. Escape 3.0L's are fairly expensive, while the Taurus ones are fairly cheap. If you want to buy one thats already prepped, check out www.arizonadynochip.com. They built my motor for me.
