Bad fuel pump??

Engine cranks but won't start. I have power to the Inertia switch, jumped it and still can't hear my pump run when I turn the key. Is there anything else to stop power before the pump? My manual shows a straight shot thru a "jumper" (no dual tanks) to the pump. Can the PCM keep power from the pump? My next step is to check for power at the pump connector. Do these pumps just fail like that very often? Any help out there will help.

yep they can and do. Mine died after I got to work one day. shut it off and got a ride home on a flat bed tow truck.

If you don't hear the pump cycle when there is a jumper ...chances are you need a new pump.

Re: Bad fuel pump??

Thanks for the reply. I checked for power at the pump last night and find that I have no power at the pump. Now I'm looking at the PCM. I read how it controls alot of things, fuel delivery being one. Now I just need to find it. Too many wires to be checking for power in and out. I'm thinking of calling the junk yard.

Re: Bad fuel pump??

I jumped it. I also have power at the inertia switch which should mean the relay is good.

Re: Bad fuel pump??

Another piece of my puzzle is a blown fuse to the PCM, I didn't have any spark at the coil either. Replaced the fuse (borrowed from a less important circuit) and got ignition back. Still no pump, I can hear the relay cycle now though. Bought a new Fuel pump from Autozone, $139, he said if I didn't install it and just slaved the wires in and it didn't work he would take it back. Can't beat that offer. Anyway, it worked. I had a fried fuel pump. Thanks to all who replied and I hope this thread helps the next guy.

I really don't agree with those electric pumps. I would remove all electric pumps and run a hose directly to the engine pump. If it doesn't have one, that sucks.
