Ferrari ignorance - 550/ 575 difference
Excuse my ignorance, I know there are some knowledable people on this site.
What's the difference between Ferrari 550 and 575 Maranello? I was just about to order both kits from HLJ but couldn't see what the difference is? |

Re: Ferrari ignorance - 550/ 575 difference
per the model difference. The 575 is an updated version of the 550. Newer interior(altough both kits utilize the 575 interior), as well as different headlight systems.
I don't have my 575 here yet, but I do believe their are some subtle body differences. Heck, just make it easy on yourself and buy one of each! LOL I'm sure someone with more Ferrari knowledge will come along and fill in more for you. These items are off the top of my head. Chris |

Nah.. You're not the only one who was thinking this... I was tempted to buy them both, but then I held off... I've got so many kits now, I don't know if I should buy anymore..
I also wanted the new Z Tune, but I've held off from that as well.... Money isn't an issue with this anymore, I've got to stop buying these kits..!! I've got some sort off illness at the moment, it's called OCD with Model Kit purchases..!! But I still want to buy one, seen a really cool build on this forum of the 550..!! Re: Ferrari ignorance - 550/ 575 difference
Mick - I've never laughed so much - it's like you are describing me!
I've just seen the white 550 and it inspired me to get one and then I thought sod it, might as well get the 575 as well. Then the Carrera GT was added to the list....... I MUST STOP! So many kits to be built now, at my current rate of one a month I can quite happily carry on until next christmas but just feel like I want to buy more! I'm crious on the difference between these two though - I am only going to buy one of them (honestly!) |

Re: Ferrari ignorance - 550/ 575 difference
I have enough kits to last me five years at my old building pace, about 50 at my current.
And I bought another one yesterday.

550 came first, from about '97 to 2001, and in 2001 they started making 575's. I have a friend who ordered one of the very last 550 Maranellos, his was built after they had already started on a few 575's back in 2001, he's got a higher VIN number than some 575's. He's about to get his Superamerica that was ordered earlier this year.
Headlight buckets, front and rear bumpers, and wheels are the visible changes on the exterior, interior was new as well. Do a google search to see the variations, or look at them on Ebay Motors. That's a good place to see lots of pics of the interiors/exteriors, great place for doing photo research. The Fujimi 550 has the 575 seats/door panels, but it does have a 550 dash.

Re: Ferrari ignorance - 550/ 575 difference
The engines are different, 550 had about 5.5 liters and 575 had about 5.7.

He said about the Superamerica-"It's not as good looking as a Maranello, but I'll be able to drive it and have fun with it and never lose a dime on it". He's probably right.

Re: Ferrari ignorance - 550/ 575 difference
IN addition to what Bob said, hood on 575 is different (bigger scoop), headlights are different, then suspension, engines, exhaust system, and some interior panels (but all this is not really relevant for these kits).

Just looked on www.hlj.com for the 575 kit, and in UK £ the kit is only £13. Now that is cheap...!! Couldn't even buy it from ebay any cheaper from some of the china kit dealers etc...
Think I might just buy one anyway. It's payday today, and feeling happy as I just won a Ferrari Testarossa for £5 including postage from ebay.. Bag a cheap model kit..!! Let me know if you order one, and what the shipping costs are. Might get one anyway, as it does look a pretty cool kit. |
