Unhappy 3rd Gen with clicking in suspension

Ok... Whenever I slam on the gas in my '87, the front end lifts up, and there is a loud click or knock in the front right tire area... It sometimes happens when turning as well.... My best guess would be control arm or maybe a bad shock mount? anyone have any ideas?

I would think it's something with the shock too, maybe just maybe a spring problem?

I've also seen the shock tower rot and slowly seperate too.

I'd have some one bounce and rock the car while you try and chekc it out, epecially if it only does it under load.

Question

Hey, did you ever find out what is wrong with your car? My son's car has a clicking, clunking noise in the front left side of his car also. My husband and him are trying to figure out what is wrong with his car.

They're stumped. So I'm looking around to see if anyone has the same problems. Best of luck getting your car fixed, please let us know what part was busted. Take care, Angela

Re: 3rd Gen with clicking in suspension

2 possibilities here.
first you can unbolt the retainer that holds the front stabilizer bar at the frame remove the rubber and grease the inside surface with a white lithium grease. When these get hard and dry they will make a creaking or popping noise whenever the nose of the car dives or raises during acceleration & braking.
Another thing to check is the link bolts that connect the stabilizer bar to the lower control arm. The rubber can dry out and disentegrate or the link bolt itself can be streched causing slack.
The link bolt will bump up and down against the bottom of the control arm, especially during high speed handling where the body of the car tends to roll or diving on uneven surfaces such as dips or potholes and going over speed bumps.

I'll bet that one of these will fix the problem

Re: 3rd Gen with clicking in suspension

me and my friend had the same problem my 82 camaro and his 86 camaro. the problem was the ball joints. when they go bad they click and the click travels through the front springs thats why it sounds so loud. try checking them.

Re: 3rd Gen with clicking in suspension

My 89 has a click/clunk like that, too. Usually happens when I give it an anitial push of momentum, ie quick speed-up or slow-down. It sounds almost like the radiator or something that stands up is loose at the top and rocks back and forith...is that what the rest of you are experiencing as well? I did my looking for this problem a long time ago, since it sounds like something is loose and knocking, I checked everything in, under, and around the front end and never found anything loose that I thought could have caused the problem...
Keep up posted, this doesnt happen often on my car, but still bugs me anyway.
