1993 escort air conditoning question
We went on a trip recently and our air conditioner on the 93 escort quit. when we got back home we recharged it but it doesn't work--doesn't seem to hold the charge. I put some die in but couldn't see any die marks on the system. Alse, the thing I noticed is that when recharging it the pressure went down when the compressor clicked on. It also only went on for a couple seconds then clicked off.
Any help would be appreciated. We have already checked some parts mentioned by others and made sure they work. Thanks in advance. |

On my '93 it was doing the same thing. The orifice valve was clogged. Had never messed with one before but I was able to replace it. Went to AutoZone and they had one for $11. Had to buy the tool that releases those couplings. Forgot what they are called. Then installed two new O rings. I think that with this clogged the system overpressurizes and the compressor kicks off like it is supposed to. The pressure slowly bleads through the orofice valve and then the clutch kicks the compressor on just long enough to overpressurize the system again. I blew some O rings on the compressor before I figured out what the problem was. Any, that's what happened to me. Let me know if you need anything else. I can show you where the valve is if needed.

I've circled the orifice valve. Normally, it will be hot on the left and cold on the right.
