spraying...
for small parts, do i have to mist/ do 4 coats and all that bs like pman wrote in his faq, or can i just spray one "wet coat"? i ask because when you spray small parts, it wastes alot of paint.
thanks, mgt |

Re: spraying...
Its better to waste a lot of paint than lay it on thick because if you just do one wet coat you can cover up details.

thats what i thought... one more question, according to pman you do 2 mist coats, sprayed very fast, 9 inches away from the part than 2 finish coats 5 inches away: how fast do you want to move the can for the finish coats (not stated) and isn't 5 inches a little close?

Re: spraying...
test it out. i do two mist coats, one like mist coat but moving slower, and then one wet coat. just try to put the can or airbrush closer to the model(5 inches sounds about right) and you should be able to move along the length of the model in 1-2 seconds. and just so you know, if you spray fast at 9 inches you will barely get any paint on the actual model. good luck.

thanks for the replies, i have followed his guide and i got beautiful results on my engine block, my only issue was that alot of paint gets wasted when you spray small parts because you cant change the nozzle size (tamiya lacquers)!

the tamiya can says you have to invert and spray for several seconds to clean after use, but what is considered "use"? say i spray a coat every 10 mins for 40-50 mins, do i have to clean after every coat, or after i am finished spraying, etc.
thanks, mgt |

Re: spraying...
Tbh mate, I have never followed that rule. I've finished off two cans aswell as two of primer and have never had nozzle problems.

Oh, and I airbrush all my parts, apart from body parts, or when I'm using primer or spray can satin black, and I always use about 3 mist coats first, then apply a final wet coat.. Looks superb, but murder on air cans...!! Another topic..
