Question alternator help!

Hi! I'm new and I need to know how to change an alternator..

I have a 4 cylinder (2.4) engine 2000 Alero. I bought an alternator at AutoZone, because my car wouldn't start and the battery is fine (they tested it), and my remote is also having troubles working so I was told change the alternator. I need to change it myself, well my brother is going to help because he works on his car-its a honda hatchback-but he doesn't know how to change the alternator. I guess it's an easy alternator to change since its right on top, on the left side. So if anybody could tell me how to do it I'd appreciate it alot!

Re: alternator help!

lol again your alt is very simple to change. You will need a 15 mill socket, 17 mill, ratchet and a extension. there are 3 bolts to remove but you must first release tyhe tension of the serpintine belt first. that is what takes if i remeber correctly the 17 mil.to release tension of the belt, pull twards the front of the car. you will need to do this again to put the belt back on. also if you have one, use a cheater bar of some sort to give you more leverage.

Re: alternator help!

there are 2 side bolts (15 mill) and one on top off the the right a little that you will have a tough time getting to. that is where the extension comes in.you will not have to release this bolt all the way, just loosen it up a bit so that when you get the 2 side bolts out the alt willl slide out to the left of the car. If you have any other questions please feel free to call me at 812-378-2982 or email me at [email protected]
