noise around 40mph

I have a 2004 1.8L Turbo Passat and recently, I've been hearing a thumping noise when I reach about 40 mph. Anyone experience this or know what this might be? It sounds like a low hollow thump. Thanks

Does it make the noise when you hit bumps or does it make the noise all the time?

Check under your car and see if the lower engine cover is attached all the way (make sure its not hanging down).

There are 3 screws in the back, 3 in the front, and 2 on each wheel well that hold it onto the car.

It's making the noise all the time. Not just when going over bumps. I'll check the lower engine cover. My dad recently changed my oil so maybe he didn't screw it back on tightly enough. Does the engine cover need to be removed to get to the oil filter?

no, but it needs to be removed to get to the drain plug.
