Seized caliper?
I recently had new rotors and pads put on the back of my 99GT.
Its was done at one of the big north American franchises that I would never go to again because their a total rip off. Any how on one side I noticed that the rotor was a little rusty so I went back and they told me the caliper was seized. Question is. How to they push the piston back if the caliper is seized? and wouldn't they notice that the caliper was seized in the first place? Should I just go buy some new calipers and put them on? I wrote their corporate office and here was their lame response needless to say I never head from them. "Thank you for taking the time out to contact our office regarding your experience with the Fd up program. We are truly sorry for having disappointed you. Our corp appreciates being informed of your situation. We have also referred this matter directly to the franchisee for further explanation and handling. You may expect to hear directly from their office within the next three business days. As a business person with ties to the community, they have a strong interest in resolving any difficulties their customers face. Your feedback will be acted upon to improve our service" I edited out the company name with Fd and Our corp. . . Last edited by wylie; 07-27-2005 at 03:08 PM. |

Hey Wylie, we speak English down South. It that a "seized" caliper or a de-"ceased" caliper.....lol. ![]() I should hope a mechanic will notice a seized caliper. Sometimes because of the hassle of whether they'll do the job right, I'd DIY the calipers. Lives depend on good brakes. Think then type I got to remember that. You know I was going to do them myself but after I did the fronts I didn't have time now I know why I stay away from these clowns. I can pick up the back calipers for a couple hun so I might as well do them. Hows it going down there any way, bin getting out on the bike? . . |

Re: Ceased caliper?
Sometimes the calipers will seize after they have been returned to their original position. Had it happen on my GTP and had to replace both calipers on the rear. It may not be the fault of the mechanic because mine didn't do that until a couple of days after the brakes were changed.
You will need to replace the calipers with new ones or remans. I would do both since they probably are in the same shape and the cost is not excessive. The rear calipers are more likely to do this than the fronts due to the fact that the pads on the front are changed more often and don't internally corrode as much as the fronts. |

But the Honda is like a Timex watch. Takes a lickin' but keeps on tickin'. The 450cc Thumpers were out in force but its hard to take on a Pro Circuit modded 2 stroke and then its down to the rider.Have fun with the calipers and let us know how it turns out. In case you didn't know the Honda CR 250 is the MX bike of choice for Team Blackfoot in Canada. Those guys kick butt on them and are sponsored by Honda. On the post count...its no big deal. I participate in other forums like Buick, Oldsmobile and Motorcycle. I might get another star.
