351 Cleveland, Big/Small Block??
I've been told that the Ford 351 Cleveland is a small block, but also have been told that its a big block. I looked online and saw this site that said its a Big Small block. I know the 351 Windsor is small block and is really a slightly enlarged 289/302, and the 351 Cleveland belongs to Ford's 335 engine family. Can anyone tell me if 351C is small or big block, or in between? Thanks.

It's both. Its a small block because of the engine size and it was never over 400 CI, but the block itself is a big block, im not sure if I awnsered your question or confused you more, but I hope this helps.

The displacement of the engine isn't why you label the block a small or big one, it's the actual physical dimensions of the block. Big blocks are significantly taller and much wider than their small block cousins, and the Cleveland block is most certainly a small one. The easiest identifier to block size is in deck height measure; Ford small blocks never exceed 9.5" and big blocks never drop below 10"... the Cleveland has a 9.213" deck height (which is actually shorter than most 351W blocks).
