Angry 1996 Focus TDI smoking and whisteling

PLEASE HELP !!!!

Since yesterday my Focus has started spitting black smoke, in 1st and 2nd gear it takes ages building up speed and while it is trying to do so it has this strage whisteling noise. As soon as I pres the Accelerator the smoke starts. I got on the motorway this morning and could only reach 60mph - I am hoping that this is something that I can sort myself !!

Can anybody help me ? I have no idea what this could be.

does your check engine light come on at all? I'm guessing it is a sensor f some sort, but then i'm justtaking a stab in the dark on that one (ford never made an 96 Focus i think that 00 was the first year)

sounds like a compression problem...have your mechanic check it for you.
