which chip to buy

i have been looking to get a chip for my car and was wandering what's the best to get. i have looked on ebay, but im kinda skeptical because of how cheap they are. there was one called gorilla or something. Just wanted your opinions on what some of you would recommend. I have a stock 94 TA with LT1, cat punched out and a K&N air filter.

Re: which chip to buy

Before buying one off EBay, check LT1 performance sites first.

Google them. Not sure which ones are good, as I am an LSx owner.
EBay tends to have have scam type chips. Resistors for $20, etc....

Re: which chip to buy

They don't make prom style chips for the 94 + LT1. They have a E-prom and must be programmed but you can buy a programming cable here http://www.akmcables.com/ic.htm and get custom tuning for your exact mods at www.pcmforless.com or www.madz28.com for around 50 bucks, they can email you your tune so there is no wait time and have unlimited tune package for like 25 bucks extra which means if you ever make another mod which would require a PCM tune change they will send you a new program to dl to your pcm for free and unlimited amount of times. Good luck

Like FormulaLT1 said, the computer chips are not removable.

I had purchased the Hypertech Power Programmer for my '95 T/A. I was very happy with that. What's good about a unit like this is you can go back and make changes at a later date.

In addition to the power tuning, you can recalibrate your speedometer if you change tire diameter or gear ratios, shift points (if an auto trans) change the rev limiter, etc.. at any time you want. you can go back and change them, reset it, etc...

It gives you many freedoms that a "pre programmed" piggyback like a Jet performance unit does not. Plus, I've met people that have purchased those one time pieces and have had other troubles with overheating ,etc. and they had ot purchase other parts to fix the one.

Be sure to buy the 160 degree thermostat if you do this.

Just my experience....
