96 Aurora overheating &
Hello, I'm new to this site but I own a 96 Olds Aurora. I've had its ince April of this year. Haven't had any major problems with it as of yet but there are a few and I'm hoping someone can assist me a little bit.
The first problem is that my car run hots sometimes. The temp is normal when im driving on the highway but if my car sits a while just runnin gor i get out turn it off and jump back in, turn it on the temp gauge goes as far as the orange line but never to the line or past it. The same thing happens when I am driving in the city with a lot of stop and go.... Im baffled because the car doesnt run hot when im driving on the highway. Secondly, my A/C doesnt work. It blows but not cool air. I got a price to fix it from a local mechanic which was $430, and I was wondering if maybe someone had or knew where I could get a modestly priced A/C condensor? Is $430 a good price? The last problem is that my windows stop working sometimes. It has only happened maybe 4 times since I've had the car, but my windows just wont go up or down. Then if the car sits a while then i try to roll them up or down they work like nothing is wrong. Also the windows dont go up or down if the driver side door is open. Does anyone have a clue what the source of this problem is and how to fix it? I'd be so greatful if anyone can help me with any one if these problems |

Losport, I have a '01, as for your overheating issue, you may want to check the operation of your cooling fans. They keep the engine cool during idle and stop and go type driving. The low fan should kick in at a specific temp like 220 degrees, the high fan should do likewise at a higer rating. If a fan is not working or kicking in at the right time, then you can get overheating. Can't help you with the AC, but the window problems may be due to bad ground, or a wiring problem in the circuit controlling the windows. If you're into troubleshooting this type of problem yourself, a set of factory manuals for your model Aurora, with the wiring diagrams is a must. Factory Manuals are a great way for an Aurora owner to get a better grasp of how the car works, especially if you intend to fix some things yourself. Hope this helps. |

Re: 96 Aurora overheating &
Since you don't turn on the AC as it doesn't work, your fans aren't on until you hit at least 220*, and it kicks up again at 235* or so. While going slow or stopped, it will creap up quickly. Just make sure both fans are going when it gets to its highest temp.
For the windows, the most common problem is with the thin wires running from the car body into the door. Open the driver door and slide back the rubber boot covering the wires and you might find a few wires pinched and/or ready to break. Same goes for wire for the red gear indicator light for the shifter on the console. |
