Electrical Problems

I posted about this alittle bit ago but I didn't explain it real well so I got replies to do stuff I already did x.x, so I'm trying this subforum.

Tail lights/parking lights/dashboard lights/console lights will not work (although the headlights/turn signals and everything else will), they all run off of one brownish wire coming out of the light switch harness, but it would have to lead to somewhere else and split off. There's so many wires I cannot trace the wire down, even since I've fried it hotwiring it you'd think it would be easy.

I blew a few fuses AFTER the wire fried, but there were no fuses blown before I fried the wire. The weird thing was I could hotwire the tail lights on, but the switch wouldn't turn them on. I bought TWO switches before the wire was fried, so that wasn't the problem. I tried to rip the dash out, to make it all easier but quickly found that that was going to be a really hard time consuming thing to do, and I probably wouldn't remember where half the plug-ins went, lol.

So the most helpful thing would probably be a wiring diagram so I can just rewire the whole tail light situation. I've searched the net up and down a couple times and cannot find anything that's specifically for an '87 Cavalier RS. I found a few CD ROMs that say they have numerous Chevrolet diagrams, but I think they were somthing like $30. Are these CD ROMs helpful, will they have what I need and are they worth the purchase? If anyone has or knows where I can find a diagram, specifically anything to do with the tail lights, or even some type of repair book with electrical in it or might know what the problem is I would greatly appreciate any input.

I'm still thinking of wiring the tail lights/parking lights to a toggle switch, but I don't know how I'd get all the dash/console lights to come on also. I really just need a diagram.

But keep in mind that I have already taken fuses into consideration awhile ago and replaced ALL of them, regardless if they were blown or not along with a relay underneath the dash (although I don't think the tail lights even have anything to do with relays, correct me if I'm wrong), and none of that is the problem as far as I know.

Well that's the thorn in my arse at the moment, and I'm stumped all to hell (considering it pushed me to do something I've never done and explore a forum for help =D). Also managed to get a warning ticket for speeding because I couldn't see the speedometer after the wire fried while I was driving. I can't believe the cop understood, usually it's just "Yeah, yeah, I bet. Here's your $200 ticket, too." =\
