should I go look at it?
I have been looking for a wrangler for a little wile now, and I found one for sale that is in my price range, but it is about 175 miles away from wehre I live. I'll give you the information that I have about it, and if you don't mind, tell me what you think about it, and if it's worth making the treck to go look at it.
jeep in question: 1993 wrangler S. 4cyl, manual trans w/106Kmiles. jeep also comes with hard top and hard doors, soft top and soft doors, extra set of tires, and one of those bikini top things. price was listed as $3000 OBO so let me know what you guys think, is it a good deal? how much longer should the engine hold out, and is it even worth driving 175 miles to look at? thanks, Keith

4 bangers are a bit underpowered, methinks (had one) and while their gearing allows you to climb things with ease, on the highway when you are going up the hills, you will wish you had an I-6 engine.
3K is a pretty decent price, but when you buy used jeeps, you usually end up buying somebody else's problems. The 4-banger engine is relatively stable, but nowhere as bulletproof as 4.0L I6. The manual tranny should hold, if the clutch is replaced. There are so many things you should consider and poke around, but IMHO I wouldn't drive 170+ miles to look at a mid 90-s jeep (for them old guys, I would). Now, if you are planning on using this as a project vehicle and you were thinking about tossing in another engine (something like small block Chevy 350) or making a crawler out of it, then it may be worth your while, because the price is okay. Otherwise fuggedaboutit. |
