Re: Does a tach need a remote wire?

i'm not sure but i'm pretty sure the power wire is supposed to be hooked up to a switched wire, such as the ignition or accessory. personally, i would hook it up to the ingnition wire under the dash. but don't take my word for it, i've never installed one before. hope this helps. good luck.

It wont drain the battery if it's hooked up right, I've never seen a tach with more than 4 wires, the "tach" wire is like a remote. It's only activated when the engine is running, well besides the light if you happen to leave your lights on. That will drain your battery no matter what.
