$ Brake Jobs, Need Help PLEASE

I have a 96 4Runner SR5 which I bought in 2001 with only 20k on it and it was in beautiful condition. About a year after I bought it the brakes started vibrating violently. I assumed the rotors had warped for some reason so I had a brake job. Since then, witout fail, my rotors have warped and need new rotors and new pads every 6 months (except once, where we put on heavy duty rotors, they lasted 9 mos). eEverything has been checked, the calipers are fine and the lines are clear, I dont ride my brakes at all and im not a "left foot braker". Toyota has said that theres no design issue. Can anyone help? My mechanic is at a total loss and I cant afford a $300 brake job every 6 mos.

Over torqued lug nuts can cause rotor warping.

Re: $ Brake Jobs, Need Help PLEASE

I have heard that and asked my mechanic, of course he said they do it right... I guess I have to trust him, or else pick up a torque wrench of my own. I have actually looked into some performance rotors, vented, etc. Ive heard good thing about a company called Power Slot and they make a model for my truck so I may give that a try. Of course I also assume park of the problem is all the stop and go of all the traffic.

No, you don't need special parts, you need to solve the problem you have with rotor life. I would take it to a dealer and have them thouroghly check out the braking system, including proportioning valves, master cylinder, calipers, etc. I bet something is applying some pressure to the front brakes (or the wheel cylinders in the calipers are sticking) all the time and they are overheating. Check it out. See if the wheels (not the rotors) are really hot after you're done driving. Rotors don't warp if they are not overheated and the wheels mounted correctly.
