well, i will need a little bit more details, but until then, i will make assumptions

I am assuming you have an N/A, and you just bought an intake system that comes with an intake filter and an intake pipe, in which they included vacuum hose with it and you have no idea where the vacuum hose connects. Well, if this is the case the vacuum hose connects on the nipple of the intake pipe (like you said before the throttle body) and it goes to the rear valve cover.

If my assumptions is not right, please give me a little bit more detail such as what model 3/S you drive so i can help you.

Re: vacuum hose line intake

Depends where it runs to...and I don't have an NA, and can't find an NA vacuum hose diagram online anywhere, so I'm not the one that will be able to tell you.

ohh ok, that vacuum hose allows the rear heads to breathe back into the intake, which is why you will find a little bit of oil in your intake pipes after a while.

Igovert- its the same hose that hooks up to your intake T-pipe

so is this why some people like to put an oil catch can here? would they put it on this line? or would some kind of filter suffice?

how does this differ from a PCV? where does the PCV hose go to from the valve cover?

yes, a lot of people put an oil catch can there to prevent oil from coming back into the intake. The vacuum/air goes through the catch tank from the rear valve cover back into the intake (there are two hoses coming off the catch tank). Another alternative is using breather filters if you dont want to hastle with a catch tank, just make sure you plug up your intake pipe.

The PCV valve in general allows the crankcase to remain under constant vacuum, even when a TT is under WOT. This basically keeps air out of the upper part of the heads because thats where the oil circulates. Failure to do so could cause air to seek down under the block.
