Sunfire - Needs New Engine

Hi All;

My son has a 1997 Sunfire convertible (2.4 auto) which has recently thrown several important engine parts out through the oil pan. It' too nice to junk so I'm thinking of replacing the engine with one from the boneyard. From what I'm reading it looks as though the only engines that will fit are from the 1996-1997 model years.

I'm asking the experts - are these my only options? or will some other years and models fit into this car? I just want to increase my options.
