Question neutral saftey switch

I replace the battery in my car, and i blew a fuse or two. I replaced them with no problem, but when i tried to shift gears i couldnt get it to shift out of park. And on top of that i dont feel the presurre releasing from the brake when i start the car. Can a fuse be the problem?

Re: neutral saftey switch

Nai, I don't think the pedal pressure would be electrical, Did you happen to knock off a vacuum line when replacing the battery? The pressure release comes from the build up of vacuum when the engine starts. As for the park release, I wish I could be of some help, I will check my haynes manual tomarrow, but hopefully someone else will have the solution for you. I'll check this thread tomarrow and see if I can be some more help.

Welcome to the Forum, You will find that there are alot of people here on the forum that can be a big help with any problems that you encounter with your Grand Am. By the way Please list the year, engine size and milage of your car. In the case of your brake/park issue the year will help us rectify you problems.

Thanks

Double check all of your fuses, there is an acutator that activates when you step on the brakes, it moves a lockout lever away from the shifter. If you are in a pinch, take the console apart and take the actuator out, just remember that its there for a reason and get the problem fixed.
