Ricers

Have you guys ever seen those rediculous "sport compacts" driving around(often a civic or integra or celica) with the stupid exhaust big enough to launch grapefruits and sounds like someones ass? Yep. That's a ricer. These idiots put body kits, lights, wheels, and all kinds of stupid dress up stuff on their car and think that they are now fast. Well I've got news:

These people put tons of money into making it look fast when, in fact it is a slow piece of shit on 4 wheels. There have been countless times that I have been at a redlight and one of these idiots will roll up next to me thinking they are hot stuff. Sometimes they'll rev on me trying to anticipate a race. After making sure it is indeed their car, and not my rectum making the noise, I will maybe rev back to let them hear the deep roar of an American V8. Then I will commence to rip them a new one when the light turns green.

These fools don't realize: most of the stuff that they add to their car makes it SLOWER!! Here are some examples: Audio(added weight), Wing(when installed on a FWD car... this is because it puts weight on the NON-drive wheels, thus taking it off of the drive wheels, making it loose traction where they need it, and NO! They do not help keep the rear end planted on a FWD car, FWD cars understeer because of the laws of physics, they will not spin out), Neon underglow(added weight), bigger wheels(more rotating mass/is the same as getting a lower gear ratio, killing torque), and Carbon fiber hoods(when installed on a FWD car, it takes weight off of the drive wheels, moving the weight bias towards the back where it shouldn't be on a FWD car).

For another thing, these idiots are using the wrong car to the wrong application. If you want to drag race your car, they in more cases than not, an American V8 is the best bet to go, or at least something RWD w/ a turbo if it has to be Japanese. The only car I've ever been beaten by was a 1970 Chevelle 454 SS. It was the sweetest car EVER. There is something wrong with people if they are having trouble beating a BONE STOCK 1994 Z28 with 193,000 MILES.

American V8s are usually the best way to go for drag racing. Why you ask? TORQUE. Here is a dyno graph from a 1.8L VTEC:

And here is a graph of a Camaro(not sure if its an LT1 or LS1, but the important thing is the shape of the curves):

HP is just a derivitive of torque and RPM. Increase torque and it will affect the HP. You will not find satisfactory torque in a little 4 banger. When it comes to stump-pulling torque, its hard to beat a V8.

Hondas are meant to be grocery getting economy cars. Not a freaking drag car. I have nothing against using an economy car for point A to point B driving, but if you expect to race people, I'd like to say this to you:

Unless you put some serious time and money into an engine swap/turbo for your ECONOMY car, then, don't think you're fast.

If I happen to meet your "ricer" at a red light, then rest assured:

/Rant

on a side note, i have this same thing posted on my myspace account as a blog. if you'd like to add me as a friend and post your thoughts on there i'd appreciate it.

Re: Ricers

Your an idiot. You have your opinions and so called "ricers" have theres. Not everyone wants a Camaro or a Stang and not every one wants to drag race. These Hondas and Celicas are bought buy kids who are having fun. So what if they had carbon fiber or big rims is it affecting your day? There is a huge market right now for this kind of stuff so many companys are feeding it to us and people are buying it. No I dont agree with alot of the things kids do to there Hondas but you know what to that person the car looks great. Have you ever been to a race with sport compacts? They are racing other sport compacts or cars in there same class. Also no need to give us all a break down of how HP and torque work. This has been an ongoing battle for years and we have heard it all so this is just another useless post of garbage.

Re: Ricers

The thing is,and I can only speak for myself,I don't hate ricers, I just think it is funny(and somewhat pathetic)how they put all this money, time and effort into something that is pointless. Some foriegn cars can be nice looking and very fast if they are done properly. It's the '87 Civic's that put coffee cans on the muffle and stickers they got in the mail and think it is cool that I find strange.

i dont have a problem making your car look good. i've actually got a part of me that likes the body kits and aftermarket wheels and stuff. its when people think that appearance modifications add horsepower that pisses me off.

no shit this is a useless post. i put it in stress relief forum because i dont expect anyone to give two shits.

pfft, camaros and mustangs both turn as well. with some minor suspension work and some time behind the wheel they handle hella good. in the car comparisons forum someone stated that an LS1 Camaro could handle as well or better than a 240SX both with comprable mods.

yes it is. i have a pic of a local one as well. no for a body kit or whatnot, but the false badging of a car(and stupid in general i might add). behold the Camaro Z82:

j/k about that, but for the most part, its not people on these forums that rice stuff out(as far as i have seen). its more just people locally that think its cool.

on a side note, i kind of misdirected this, but its the improper application and lack of brains these idiots who usually happen to have "rice" that think they are fast.

also, i do not have a problem with a fast honda. my neighbor owns(owned? havent talked to him in a while/seen it in a while) an older civic with a completely gutted interior, no pass. seat, no radio or electronics, a built N/A B16 or B18(dont remember what he told me), and showed me a 12 second timeslip. it seemed pretty impressive to me.

Re: Ricers

I know I am not fast I drive a gas conservative 4 banger Honda civic. My car may appear to be fast with the modifications I have done. I guess its all a matter of how you act and drive and the image you give to other people. I'm in it for the show aspect not the race aspect. Respect is key as well. When I see a nice car either it be domestic or import I give a flash of the lights a honk or a wave just to show I appreciate what they have done form an automotive enthusisests point of view.

yeah im respectful to people when i want to race. unless they're an ass to me first. i give everyone a thumbs up after we race. and i never actually do anything to start a race. i wont honk or do anything. ill just kind of look at them with a weird glance and if they rev or something then ill return the favor.

Re: Ricers

Ah the "ricers". I absolutley love ricers!! They have done nothing for me except make me money. In my small town there are only like 2 body shops and those are strictly collision shops they will not do any type of "custom" work. But, I have a buddy that lives like a hour away that owns his shop and is able to hook me up with almost a 50% discount on any part I could ever want. So when I was in High School word got out that I knew my shit and I had all these kids coming and asking if I could do this and that for them. So throughout my senior year of high school I made about between $20-$30K of off turning these kids beat ass honda's and whatnot into halfway decent looking cars. Only problem was ever car I worked on absoltley had to have some sort of an totally obnoxious wing on the back and a cherry bomb muffler. Easy money for easy ass work. If only I didn't feel so bad about destroying the car world I would have continued this line of work. Peace-
