Just bought a civic and its shaved......

Hey, this may be a dumb question but oh well. I just bought a 93 civic 4 door but I dont know if its a CX, DX, LX, or VX, because the previous owner has it shaved. I'm pretty sure it isn't a vx or ex because those have the vtec engines and those wouldnt be in a 4 door....right? so anyways I was hoping someone could help me out. Like I said its a 4 door, and there is a rear spoiler with the breaklights on it.....

any help would be appreciated, thanks guys/girls.

ya i realise a spoiler can be put on, I was just stating that because some models come STOCK with them, i know the 2 doors usually do...anyway, Im at work so i cant give the engine number, and if I had the engine number it'd be easy to find out. Im asking what engines usually come in a 4 door automatic.....at least this way i can narrow it down.

thanks

Re: Just bought a civic and its shaved......

It's either an EX or LX, those are the only 4dr models.
For engine codes; D15b7 is the LX, D16z6 is the EX.

right, but i think what they are trying to say is check the engine code and tell us, then we will tell you what trim level it is (and ex's came with painted mirrors and door handles)

Ok, so after being home for the weekend I can give some more info as to what version my car is. I checked the ownership and it says EX, but I've noticed that the Ex's have a tach, which mine does not........could it still be an EX w/ vtec?

Did you check the title or the VIN? Check the VIN in all location and make sure they're all the same. Check the VIN with a manual or an online VIN check. If you have different VIN, the only thing that the VIN will tell you is what model the body is. Check the engine code if they're different. If you need help locatin the engine code PM me. Do you have a listing of the engine codes and what they're associated with?

Re: Just bought a civic and its shaved......

Just look at the engine code, and let us know what it is. Also if it's the EX, the engine will have the spark plugs on the front of the valve cover.

Check those things and the other things mentioned before. If you don't then you're really not going to get much help from the little info you've given.

sorry for not providing the engine code.....its been hard with working out of town. I figured there would be a clear distinction appearance wise between the lx and ex but apparently not. im a total newb when it comes to hondas......sorry. you mention the spark plugs being on the front of the valve cover.......could you provide a picture perhaps?

Re: Just bought a civic and its shaved......

http://www.hmotorsonline.com/shop/images/d15b.jpg That's a pic of a jdm sohc, but it's the same thing with the '92-'95 sohc vtec engines. If it's a dx or lx, the plug wires will be on the other side of the valve cover.

Re: Just bought a civic and its shaved......

They can't be (in the center) unless you have a DOHC engine swapped in there. Here's a pick of my non-vtec sohc engine: http://img.photobucket.com/albums/v4...n/DVC00092.jpg
See how the plugs are in the back and not in the front like the vtec one.

The engine code would definently narrow it down.

Thumbs up

that looks more like my engine. i dont understand why my ownership would say EX though. so I guess I dont have an ex/vtec afterall, its gotta be the lx. well that kinda sucks. although, mine says the 16 valve honda, where the one in your pic does not, but I guess theres no difference there?
im just waiting for my dad to email me my vin and engine number.....

my engine looks more like this (not the black colour though)

Re: Just bought a civic and its shaved......

Yeah, then it will be an LX or DX. The one in my pic doesn't say 16 valve, because it's only an 8 valve I've got a crappy little CX, 70hp beat. But the LX and DX have the same engine, D15b7.

When you get the VIN, check out the 8th number/letter. If it's a 4 then it's a DX, 5 it's an LX, 6 it's an EX.
