Warning beeper when door opens - key out

Hello all. First time post and new member.
95 LX 1.9 5 spd
The beeper continues any time the doors are opened. I have left my lights on before because I have learned to ignore this over the past months. I just bought a 96 and it does not beep, so I think I need to try and fix the 95. I am pretty sure it is the switch thats detects if the key is still in the cylinder. Any thoughts and if I am right, what would be best way to fix?

I think you are right in your diagnoses. I'd try squirting a little WD-40 in the keyhole and see if that loosens that switch up. Personally, I'd like to disable that noisy thing and install an after-market headlight alarm.

I have the samething on my car. The girl that I bought the car from had one of them key chains with five million things hanging from it. All the weight hanging from the keys causes the pin to wear and after a while not work. I just snipped the wire connected to the alarm. It was better then replacing the whole thing, cheaper too.

If you take the plastic steering column surround off you will see your tumbler (part you stick your key in), the ignition switch, (Black plastic part on the back end of the tumbler) and a small white rectangular plastic piece attached to the tumbler. This white plastic piece is the switch for the alarm. You could replace the entire ignition switch, and this comes with it, or go the easy route, and just cut one of the wires coming from it. If you cut the wire, you wont get any alarm that your key is in the ignition, but your problem will be solved.

I think thats what I'm looking for as a solution. Is the plastic cover a painless removal?

Very painless. There are 5 screws I beleive. You just need a decent length phillips screwdriver to get the 5 screws out, and the plastic surround pops off. Good luck.

Mine only had 3 screws. Silence is golden!!! Getting the plastic cowling to line back up with the screw holes was the worst part of this, if you don't count the 100% humidity!!!
