It depends on what each cars has. I have never lost to a Mustang GT or a camaro. But like I say, it depends on the mods.

stock except for a few mid 90's mustang gt's you will get owned, you cant take a late 4.6 or early 5.0. and the only camaro you can take is a base model, not a z28 or ss...so don't even attempt it

Yeah, you'll definitely want to mod... especially against any car with an LS1. Some of the basic mods (FWI and pullys) are inexpensive and make such a difference.

Re: Re: gtps vs mustang gt's and camaros

I've got a modded '97 GTP and I don't waste my time on any Mustang GT. I've taken out numerous '97 - '98 Cobras and a '01 SVT Cobra. At the dragstrip I've beaten a Camaro SS with LS1. The GTP takes to mods very well and it's relatively inexpensive. It's a car to be reckoned with and should never be underestimated.

What turbo are you using?

Will you be going witha kit or a complete custom setup?

youll never reach 500hp without completely redoing everything under the hood...bolting on ONLY a turbo kit will give you almost 100 hp, and not to mention will you be stressing parts of your engine at that level...be careful.....and yes your modded gtp can take a STOCK ls1

Actually the two GP guys I know that just bolted the "Cartuning" turbo IC kits on dynoed 400whp which is ~500hp, and that was with the stock cam/heads/internals/trans. So yes you can get 500hp pretty easily with the turbo kit.

Only one of them has been to the track, he ran a best of 11.8@118 with only a 1.84 60'

yeah thats a pretty decent kit, but you said they had intercoolers probably running at least 18psi...regardless when you reach 500hp under the hood your pretty much pushing the hell out of your capabilities, espcially in your tranny and pistons, and it's not a good idea to go that high bolting a turbo onto a stock gt

Re: gtps vs mustang gt's and camaros

It doesn't matter how much horsepower you get out of the mods. The biggest chink in the armor will be the stock 4T65E tranny. Plus this guy has a stock 3800 SE. The 4T65E-HD tranny on the GTP was only designed by the GM engineers to handle consistent 13.5 sec runs and maybe up to 350 hp reliably. Doesn't do much good to have extreme mods when your car is going to spend its life at the tranny shop. Just my 2 cents.

well your pretty damn lucky you got 4k layin around, IC w/ that? my gt lacks balls which is the only reason i will put it up for sale soon, unless i throw a supercharger or turbo on it...let me know how that kit works for you, if i get one also i will have only that as a mod, and probably a tranny cooler at the least :-/..throw on some new exhaust piping and she should breathe pretty well..keep us updated

but hell i dont want to push much over 100hp gain
