Angry Transmission problems

Well, theres something wrong with my tranny. Gears 1-3 shift perfectly, but when it gets to overdrive, it acts like its in neutral. The TV line was off the throttle body, so i reconnceted that, but still it does it. The fluid is fine, it would probably do better getting it changed, but it is normal. Could it be some electrical issue, or is there a way i can really check if it is the overdrive?

Similar problem

Having similar problem with 1993 Merc Cougar. It suddenly started slipping in OD. All other gears are fine. I can hold OD on flat road or downhill, but as soon as I give it a little gas it slips just as though it were in neutral as you described. I will be interested in any replies. I will let you know anything I find out - hope you will do same.

Re: Transmission problems

I was going to have a transmission shop to check it out, but i didnt feel like paying 50 bucks just to tell me its f'ed up. Would an ecc test reveal anything if it was a soldenoid or a relay of some sort?

depends is overdrive light flashing should be if electical prob then scanner would tell you what area to look at. if light flashing may be tcc solenoid . hard to guess. no light flashing sounds like bad converter lockup clutch possible burned overdrive band or apply servo or bad 3-4 shift valve(may be leaking internally) just a partially edumacated guess from one of the worlds "special" people

Re: Transmission problems

If the tv cable was off of the throttle body then it has to be adjusted just right for a fact. When i was in tech school(for automotive) I personally seen a 5.0 crown vic with a AOD get burned up from the grommet where the tv cable went not having it adjusted right and it stayed in overdrive burned the tranny right out.

Re: Transmission problems

It might be the od is out but I have personally seen a aod in a crown vic get burned up from a tv cable not being adjusted right ,kept the tranny in overdrive and it never kicked back down.Id check and recheck the tv cable(suppossed to have a special ford service tool) but you can do it without it

Re: Transmission problems

basically like the old style kick down cable or passing gear. When you punch it ,it kicks the tranny down a gear.It hooks close to the throttle body and can be a pain to set right.

TV cable , cable TV same thing ----TV cable=throttle valve cable-connects throttle valve in trans to the throttle body on engine BTW what kind of car are we working on because aode(automatic overdrive electronic) did not have TV cable and new style aode = 4r70w did not have TV either. all downshift, upshift is handled by PCM electronics maybe was cruise cable disconnected?
