Question Missing EGR

Here is the scoop:

1990 Ford Taurus L
3.0 L
4 door
MN car all of its life

Just snooping around my engine the other day comparing to the haynes and just tinkering.

Started looking for the EGR. Nope, not there (or at least I cant find one). I can find the place on the intake where it would go (right next to the throtle body area). There are two bolt holes with a metal plate over the opening.

Question:
Do I need a new pair of glasses?
Did Ford only have EGR's on California cars then?
Will not having / or having the EGR effect my cars performance?

Haynes has a pic of the EGR on a 3.0. Were they smoking something?

Thanks

Re: Missing EGR

I had a 90 taurus too, a long time ago, and I remember that it didn't have the egr valve either. But the funny thing was that I had an 86 model that did have the valve, that's what I found strange.
