Project Anti-Civic : Mitsubishi Lancer non-Evo
Hello.
The car I am trying to build is a Mitsubishi Lancer (Mirage in USA). The kit used is Tamiya Mitsubishi Lancer Evo6. The idea was to build something with a more unique subject. It involves getting rid of the overfenders of the Evo and replacing them with flat fenders that is flush to the rest of the body. the front/rear bumpers and side skirts will also need to be modified. So far I have only done replacing overfenders with styrene cards cut to shape. I will apply milliput epoxy soon. ![]() Poor overfenders~ After they were cut out they were superglued onto styrene cards, then I cut around the part to get a somewhat close shape of them ![]() More views from front and back. You can see how narrow it has become that the evo front bumper is very unfit. The Honda Prelude wheels were fitted temporarily to test how even the wheel wells are. I will have to think about what wheels to use later. I will keep the Evo style hood and trunk. I will CF both these parts. ![]() ![]() ![]() I am still figuring out how to modify the front bumper. Any experts here have suggestions about scratchbuilding a bumper out of styrene? BTW feedback/suggestions always welcomed. Thank you~

Re: Project Anti-Civic : Mitsubishi Lancer non-Evo
WOOOO!! I always wanted to see a Mirage made. I don't get it. Were there only evos in japan? And no base models like the Mirage? Cool idea. Good luck with the rest of the build.

Re: Project Anti-Civic : Mitsubishi Lancer non-Evo
cool project... I always wondered since Mirages (cheap common cars) looked exactly like the one of the hailed evo series

Re: Project Anti-Civic : Mitsubishi Lancer non-Evo
The front bumper is going to be difficult to do because it is so basic, has no foglights, and almost no vents. Keep it up i wanna see it done, i had a mirage once but the round one, the one that resembles the evo 3.

Your conversion is lookin' great!
If you can still find a Lancer EVO IV kit then your fender problem would've been solved earlier. It would also be nice for your Lancer conversion to have rear drum brakes instead of the Evo's rear discs. Keeping your Lancer as bonestock as possible will help in convincing the onlookers that your kit is a standard Lancer and not an EVO.

Thank you for the kind words from all of you
I have always thought up until the jdm Lancer Cedia came out at around 2002, there had only been Mirages in the US (I live in Canada)...maybe i was wrong...sorry for the confusion if I was. I found a pic of the model of the Lancer close to what I am trying to build. This is called a Lancer MR. It has a 1.6L 4G92 engine with MIVEC that produces 175hp. There is also a GSR model which is 1.8L 4G93 turbo and makes 205hp. From how I see it, the only difference between these two models are the sticker on the front doors. The chassis code for the 1.6L car, I believe, is CK4A. ![]() The model in the pic is the one before the facelift. I am building the one after. I have more progress coming, although it isn't very advanced through the process...just some more minor things. I am sorry just in case if my slow progresses start to become too redundant for you guys :I started filling up the fenders with milliput silver grey epoxy putty. I used squadron white putty in the inside of the body to reinforce the fenders. During this process I also realized a bunch of indents on the trunk lid, which would have been covered by the Evo 6 spoiler. Having a plan to keep my lancer either wingless or a very small spoiler I must cover up those dents and fill up the 2 holes at the center. Before The milliput was applied I also carved out the fuel door on my own. I can't stand Tamiya would use a decal as a fuel door. just hours after the milliput sets I did some initial sanding/shaping to the fenders. One thing I don't like about epoxy putty is the difficulty on mixing both parts well. Look how rough my front left fender becomes, just because half of the milliput werent mixed well enough, leaving some single part of the putty, which will never harden and will have to be removed from the fender. ![]() ![]() ![]() ![]() cbrain: Yea I was thinking of using a hasegawa Evo4 as the base to modify, and I have the kit lying around too! However I thought the kit was hard to obtain (I have yet to see a stock Evo4 in Calgary, and a rally spec is sold in my LHS for ~$50CDN ) My conscience wouldn't let me slice that expensive, hard to find kit apart. In fact the Tamiya model actually looks better as well. I put both bodies together to find out that even with the overfenders put aside, the hasegawa body was almost 5mm narrower!!I would also like to build one completely stock too! But I also want one to look like it has been modified. One reason is that it would save myself some work on getting rid of that beautiful Evo hood, another reason is that I will paint the hood and trunk lid carbon fiber effects (I keep trying and yet there's always room to improve ). Don't worry, I am planning to make the non-Evo's chrome corporate grill to go between the headlights. It will prove itself that its a normal Lancer, with an attitude ![]() Thank you for reading. More comments welcome! |
