Road salt...

I'm looking for any suggestions on how to get road salt out of carpeting...for those of you who don't have to deal with this garbage, after any road salt that gets into the carpeting and becomes embedded after a while really f***s up the carpeting and makes it turn white. I just got the car, and the drivers side carpeting has a lot of this. Is it a lost cause, or can I get it out? The whole area on the carpet where the salt is, is more or less solid, and looks pretty bad. Thanks for any help.

Re: Road salt...

Carpet extractor is the best way but most people don't own one. DIY carwashes, detail shops, or local carpet cleaning companies can do the best job. Extractors inject a warm solution while a vacuum pulls the solution out before it has a chance to soak in. You can get the close results with a spray bottle, carpet shampoo, scrub brush, & wet/dry vac. If you get it too wet your car will NEVER smell the same.
