Might be a stupid question...

But how hard is it to get a 86-86 GN to run low 12s high 11s? My dad might get a car to play around in and he was thinking about getting a GN to do some drag racing and be a summer driver. Also one of his coworkers has a Z06 Corvette, he could't stand for it to be faster.

This really depends on what your comfortable with. I'm a buick GN guy and one thing you learn with GN's is that cranking the boost up can make up for a lack of up grades in a hurry. You will see a guy with a mild set up out run more than a few full built cars. The other thing you will see is a low drag strip ET car lose on the street to a slower ET car. There are a few tricks that will make the car ET alot better at that track but wont help out near as much on the street.

Under the hood wise there is a relatively small number of things you have to do/buy to get the car into the low 12's/high 11's. This is assuming good fuel and slicks. The one problem that always comes up with GN's is the transmission. Once you start putting consistent low 13 to mid 12 second power through them they just dont seam to last. Having the tranny built up usually gets into the $1200 and up range.

So the question would be wether you shooting for drag strip ET fast or 11 second street fast?
