Manual Shifting Speeds
I was wondering if anyone knows the proper shifting speeds for a 5 speed manual trans on a 99 VW Beetle 2.0 AEG engine.
I have been doing as follows: 1st gear: 0-15 2nd gear: 15-25 3rd gear: 25-35 4th gear: 35-45 5th gear: 45 and on I am only asking because I read the the standard for manual trans shifting is 15 mph per gear. If that is true then you wouldn't be in 5th gear until you hit 60 mph. Any help would be appreciated! |

Re: Manual Shifting Speeds
Just look at tacometer and to be safe shift at 3000 rpm. It does not matter what speed, only rpm. No matter what kind of road, i drive in fifth gear for fuel economy. I will be at 35 mph or 143 mph.
