Would you pass...

....a State Trooper going 5 MPH under the speed limit??

I was behind one today that was going 50 in a 55. I switched lanes, and went around him. The only thing I was worried about was the lack of front plate.

A LINE of cars stayed behind him, and he didn't pull me over.

Just wondering how many would actually have tried/done that pass??

BTW....in the Grand Am GT, windows down, seatbelts on.

Re: Would you pass...

dude, i go the speed limit, if hes going slower, thats his problem. hell, ive followed state troopers on the highway at 20mph over the speed limit. they would pull over and try to slow down to get behind me and id slow down to the speed limit. i stopped doing it when he started to look really angry. but i did it for a while non the less. he wasnt responding to an emergency, he had no right to speed anymore than i did. so what was he gonna do, write us both tickets??

Re: Would you pass...

Well, this happened to me when I drove my Lumina. I was going my usual 80MPH when a pack of cars is just crusing at 65MPH in front of me. I manage to pass a whole bunch of people, and spot a cop crusing at the front. GO FIGURE. Anyways, I roll up next to him, notice that he is out of this juristiction, nod and continue to increase my speed. Im increasing my speed, and I notice that the cop car is staying with me. I hit about 80 MPH again (remember this is a lumina, slow acceleration at higher speeds), and the cop nails the gas, gets in front of me, going over to the far lane, and gets off the exit. Im like "damn".

Now this happened to me in the Firebird. Im crusing home again doing about 80MPH and I notice a pack of cars ahead of me doing 65 MPH (65 is the speed limit incase your wondering) and I think to myself "bet you a quarter theres a cop ahead". Oh man, I was right . I manager to get next to him, I nod, and I pass him, this time a little bit on the violent side. Well he gets behind me and starts pasing me. Here in the state of Ohio, if a cop paces you for about a mile, he can legaly give you a ticket for your speed. Now, once he got behind me, I slowed to 60MPH. This pissed him off REAL bad, so he passed me on the left (HAHA ON THE WRONG SIDE OF THE ROAD W00T). So I continue to pace HIM. This pissed him off very badly. When he accelerated, I did, when he braked, I did, when he cut in front of someone, as did i. I paced him for about 15 miles before he passed the street to my house (yeah, I even followed him on the offramp and down the street )

Those are my only two stories about cops that has to do with what you asked.

Short: Yes I would pass him doing 5 MPH. Hell, I'd pass him doing 5 MPH over the speed limit.

Re: Would you pass...

Heh, been there, done that. Like 89 said, if they're goin slower than need be, then so be it. I've gone around around cops several times because they're goin too slow. And then again, I see cops flying around all the time here, so I follow them and go the same speed. I actually followed one once in a 45 when he was doin over 60. Speeding like a bat out of hell just to pull into a Win Dixie parking lot to do some paper work. What b/s. I called up the non emergency police line here and spoke with his sergeant. Not sure if it did any good, but it's the most I can do.

I've had cop problems (never a ticket tho) in all three cars i've driven (Jimmy, sonoma, camaro). Ohio cops are nuts anyway, but the ones in mentor on the lake are ridiculous. There are TWO spots in this town is the speedlimit over 25mph.... very small stretches of 35mph. Anyways, this has happened 3 times... once in all three cars. I ALWAYS make sure i'm doin at the max 30mph whenever i'm around there because those cops do not give warnings... always a ticket from what I've heard. So i'm driving down in a 25mph zone going 25. Two cop cars come FLYING... and i mean FLYING up behind me with no emergency lights on. I stop at the stop sign and turn right (you can't go any other direction anyway... ). BOTH of them are within inches of my bumper. I'm going 20 now thinking they are gonna pull me over... i actually almost did pull over just to see if they would follow. I drive nice and slow into the 35mph zone and get to about 35 with the cops still within inches of my bumper. I cruise for a couple minutes and they both take off in two different directions.

This has happened 3 times in my jimmy, sonoma AND the camaro so its not just that they are picking on me. Its always at night too so they can't see my face. I'm sick of it! Theres like a total of 4 cops that work at the station because the town is like 2 miles in diameter. 3 of them are real arse holes. I'm definitely calling the station next time it happens... my girlfriends step dad is a cop and a detective (hes duh boss over the cops... not sargeant or chief tho) for the city of mentor (not mentor on the lake) and he said that i should report them when it happens again... he said they could get suspended

Re: Would you pass...

wow, i never thought i'd see a local on this site. yea, mentor on the lake sucks, I avoid that area as much as I can. you know that stretch of 20 where it's 25mph and everyone does 40 anyways, even the cops.

Yeah I dont get why people never pass up the damn cops, not like they're going the speedlimit like they should, funny thing is I bet they were speeding, got reported on then they go slow. I hate though cops just going real slow and holding up traffic, pisses me off, I just gun it to the speedlimit.
