Oil pan/pump ect??
Ok its time to buy an oil pan, pump, & pickup. What I'm looking for advice on is do I need to spend $300+ on a 7qt+ pan or will the 5 1/2 qt pan from summit work just fine for $131? My mods are listed below and the s-trim uses oil from the engine as well so....what do you guys think? Will I have any problem useing the 5.5qt pan? Also if I where to buy the smaller oil pan would I just need a stock replacement oil pump?
Thanks in advance.

Re: Oil pan/pump ect??
I have not looked into the oil pan issue with my build as of yet, but can I ask why you would want to use 8.5:1 on your compression? Unless later on you are planning to hit some pretty big boost numbers, I would go 9:1 or maybe a little higher.

Re: Oil pan/pump ect??
Why do you want to get a new one any way??? got a hole or is it old????
I would put a 9.1 in there instead of what you wanted to put in there....

Re: Oil pan/pump ect??
I'm going 8.5:1 due to piston choice and the size of my combustion chambers. I have 60cc chambers so with a -22 cc dish I will be around 8.5:1. My block however will be decked accordingly to get me up a little higher on compression, closer to 9:1 (around 8.7).
I'm getting a new oil pan because the stock style 351w pans will not fit the crossmember of the fox cars.

Re: Oil pan/pump ect??
I'd stick below 9:1 also. Even if you say you'll stay below 9 PSI it never seems to happen and the pulley gets swapped....I'd even stick with 8.5 personally unless the block really needs decked. If so you can still get thicker head gaskets...
As for the pan, you have to ask yourself if an extra 200 bucks or so is worthy insurance for your nice shiny new shortblock and huffer.... It also depends on your use, You'd probably get away with a standard pan if it's a street car that only gets raced occasionally, but if you're at the strip every weekend, I'd go the Canton or Moroso route.... BTW check out summit PN MOR-20520 It's a 7 QT Moroso for fox chassis 351W. 220 bucks...

Another reason I'm keeping compression low is because its been in the 90* range during the day here lately, I may not run a boost retard at first, and I'm being told by several worthy people to lock my timing up high.

Re: Oil pan/pump ect??
AHH! Just realized the moroso pan was not an engine swap pan. I need a swap pan to put my 351w into my 87 coupe. I hope the guys over on the corral come thrue and save me some money lol. Thanks for trying SVT.

Re: Oil pan/pump ect??
??? Me confused, it says it fits a 351W in a Fox Chassis.... To me that is a swap pan, unless you used some serious dropped motor mounts? I've never done a Windsor swap into a fox, but it seemed it should work. I tried...
I've always had very good luck on the corral, I post there under a diff. name from here.

I just bought a Vortech tensioner pulley, MarkVIII fan, and LM-1 off of the corral. Hopefully I can get the Canton pan soon, 1 pan already fell through.

Re: Oil pan/pump ect??
My Summit says 1979-1995 chassis....which makes sense since they didn't change much...

Re: Oil pan/pump ect??
i'm going with the motorsport pan/pickup/dipstick combination in my 393, part number FMS-M-6675-A58. about 130 bucks.. it's perfectly adequate for what i'm doing, which is mostly drag racing. i'm using a melling high volume stock replacement oil pump, so i'm not anticipating any problems. ARP makes a really slick bolt kit for both the pump and pickup for about 10 bucks i think.

Edit: Ah you said pickup not pan, my bad. Is it for the deep sump'd Canton style pans? Is it made to be held on by the little nipple 3/8 or so thread on the end of one of the stock main bolts?
