Cool Enigma 3 - Exotic Supercar Design (3D)

Here’s my latest work. This is the third version of the Enigma 3 & I hope to soon complete the 4th version.

If you look back at some of the older versions, I’m sure you’ll notice a significant improvement. Supercars are about perfection & I noticed a number of areas that I could improve on version 3, so I’ve been working on version 4 recently. I included a sneak preview of version 4 & I’m sure you’ll notice numerous changes and improvements. I might put up some comparison pictures later between version 3 and 4.

Re: Enigma 3 - Exotic Supercar Design (3D)

I like it, although have you thought of how the engine hatch would open? You know how a Ferrari 360 open's its lid like a trunk right? = < how about a reverse hinge so that it opens like a regular hood toward the back? = >. You would need to open right along the line of the roll bars, the latch would have a good hiding spot there and could also work if there would be a hard top all you would need to do is push the opening back to the lowest point in the slope. If you add a wing to the back sometime it could be on the hatch although the down force sometimes can overwhelm hatches so if built it would need enforcement on the hatch. An idea I had but whatever ill use it on some car I design when I get out of school.

Very nice concept. I've seen this posted on another thread before or maybe your other versions. I think this is maya rendered in mental ray. So why does your mesh dont show any polys? Is that a shaded viewport display of maya? Pretty cool stuff!

Version 3/4 Comparisons
http://www.gryphonauto.com/Extra/e3/e3-04-01.jpg

I linked the image (rather than using img tags) because it’s rather large. You should notice a number of changes, making the car smoother, more curvaceous, muscular, and refined.

What motivated me to start version 4 is this picture. You may notice the area above the front wheels is muscular, aggressive, and curvaceous while the rear profile slopes off. I wanted to match that which forced me to rebuild 75% of the car. That exploded into many other ideas… removed hood creases, curvaceous nose (was blunt), smoother front intakes, smoother side-intake curve, improved side surface form, wider-appearing/curvaceous profile of rear bumper, reduced lengths between wheels, and much more.

I guess that’s the price of being a perfectionist, ha ha, but anything less than perfect isn’t supercar quality.

Thanks for the comments / compliments everyone!

Interesting hidea, however practical access to the engine compartment would be more difficult. You could access the engine compartment from the sides (although it can be a pain considering how wide my design is), but with your idea, you couldn’t access the engine compartment from the rear.

Thanks for the comments/ideas!

Poly’s down show because this isn’t poly-modeled. NURBS is curve-based modeling where as polymodeling is a collection of flat faces. NURBs is approximated with polys when viewed or rendered, but the surfaces are theoretically completely smooth.

This is true but on most super cars if you need to do anything to the engine there going to drop it. The Lambo Diablo/Ferrari Enzo/Honda NSX all can have the engine dropped in less then two hours. The old Vipers are a pain in the ass to work on. They don’t flip up all the way and anything like the intake or radiator or anything else that you need to be working around up at the vary front of the car you need to take the hood off. Anyway it’s your car, and looks sweet.
