Slick 50
I have searched thru the archives and the subject was touched upon, but I see there wasnt much personal experience feedback posted....
Regarding Slick 50 oil additive. What kind of experience have you had with it? I have a car that has 123,000 miles and I had to change the leaky headgasket at 122,000(this particular brand engine has head gasket issues regularly)...and when I did I found that the factory hone marks were still present in the cylinder bores and there was zero ridges atop those bores (meaning the pistons could be extracted without cutting that ridge off).I dont know if Slick 50 had anything to do with that, but I have never seen zero wear before at 122,000 miles. This is not a Cavalier, and Slick 50 was put in at 6,000 miles,56,000 miles, and 106,000 miles. The 94 VL has never had Slick 50,its at 35,000 miles now,and I'm debating putting some in.My other car when starting at below zero temps makes no abnormal engine noises (and its mechanical lash adjusters too!),yet the VL makes all sorts of cranky weird sounds until the engine heats up.I realize GM admitted to installing undersize pistons in many 2.2's,but the sounds this one makes isnt piston rattle or slap.I find that when Slick 50 is added, the engine seems to rev more freely and wont coast down(foot off gas, coasting in gear)slowly as soon as without. What are your experiences??? |

Re: Slick 50
I do understand that Dupont has always claimed that there was zero benefit to adding Teflon to engine oil,and Teflon is a solid not a liquid and can be only made so small,so it could potentially plug oil filters/oil passageways.Briggs and Stratton also did testing and found that Slick 50/Duralube and others actually adds engine wear and doesnt reduce it.However, from my personal experience I havent seen these negatives firsthand.

Re: Slick 50
This crap again! It is snake oil. Do a little searching over in the engineering section for the evidence and information on government actions to make them stop their BS claims. A lot of new engines last a very long time due to better metals, oils, and engineering.
