AC Compressor clutch problem

My dad has a 94 mercury cougar 3.8 V6.......when he turns AC on, you can see clutch engaging for about 1-2 seconds, and then it shuts off. a few seconds later, it kicks back on for about 1-2 seconds, and so on and so on. any ideas on this?

I've got the exact same car and I'm also having AC problems. Through my investigating it means your low on freon normally. Mine is just blowing hot air and thats it. Good luck. Jeff
