1.0L JDM engine

I have a 1996 Metro with a blown 1.0 L engine. I have not been able to locate a 1.0 L 1996 JDM engine? I did find several 89-95 1.0L engine on Ebay. Does anyone know the difference between the 96 and the 89-95 enigne? I the 89-85 long block interchangable with the 96? If so - are there any modifications need to the pre 96 motor prior to installation. Any help would be appreciated since I am new to Geos.

Thanks,
Minh

JDM long block swap

Has anyone swapped a pre 96 1.0 liter motor into a 1996 Geo Metro? If so, did you have to use the 1996 block or modify the pre 96 motor to accept the crank sensor? Does the 1996 crank have to be use?

Save yourself some grief and use the same year engine. Look on the net and use a part search service for the whole country (US) they're free. 95 and earlier do not have a crank sensor on the front of the crank.

I found a 96 1.3 engine in Chicago for $450 which included shipping. Had 48K on it. Shipping is to a truck depot though, not to your door unless you make arrangements and pay more. Mine was shipped to here in Washington state and I picked it up about 50 miles away. It's worth the money to rebuild a metro for the gas savings alone and how reasonable to maintain. A new set of 12 inch tires, $125 down the road. Easy to work on engine and tranny. For a DIY it is a dream for transportation. And it keeps right up with the big guys on the Eway. Beautifully geared. You drive a metro for awhile and you begin to see how much ego has to do with car ownership. I drive a geo with humility along with the environment and wallet in mind. My ego car is a turbo Eclipse which I admit is a little scary.

Re: 1.0L JDM engine

if your in washington state on the west cost side you can pick up jdm engines in auburn for around $325, they fit the 89-95 metros. they also sell lots of other engines, try aoneengine.com or look in back of little nickle paper
