start of piston slap?

i was outside of my truck with it running today and i could hear a slight noise from the engine, not sure how to explain it, maybe like a rubbing noise. the sound clips i have heard of piston slap sound a bit similar but just louder and stronger sounding...

i usually couldnt hear it because i usually just hear exhaust inside, but outside by the front u can definately hear it.

not sure any ideas?

its an 04 w/ 4.8L, 24,000 KM.

Re: start of piston slap?

I think GM was supposed to have fixed the problem by either the '03 or '04 model year. In '03 some things on the engine changed (drive by wire TB, different t-stat are 2 things that come to my mind). I would think your truck would be safe from piston slap.

Re: start of piston slap?

Mine's an '03, and yes, it has a documented case of "short skirted pistons", or as we know; piston slap. I have 3 friends that have '04 and '05 models and they too have the dreaded "slap". It's not fixed, and I live with it every day, as do many GM buyers. As far as I can tell, Royal Purple and a K&N oil Filter help alot, and no damage to the engine to speak of. JUST VERY ANNOYING
