Headlights!

Do the headlights suck on this van or is it just me?
The covers are clear and not dirty but the light outout is less than my mini maglite!

Any suggestions for a fix or an upgrade?

Thanks!
Jeff

Re: Headlights!

Do your covers have a spiderweb cracking in the lenses? I know mine do and it greatly reduces the usable light by diffusing it.

And yes, our lights do suck. The early model's lenses had a tendency to have the glue dry out, crack, then fall apart. I'm not sure if the later models were redesigned.

Re: Headlights!

The extra 10 watts adds an adds close to another amp of current as well as significant heat. I know my bulb bases have exhibited signed of charring and overheating already using the standard bulb. I think upping it to the higher wattage bulb would be asking for trouble.

Re: Headlights!

I'm glad I'm not the only one who noticed the poor lighting. The lenses on my 2004 are clear, although one of them does have a fair amount of condensation, which will probably end up fogging or clouding the lens.

Re: Headlights!

The headlamps were incredibly dim on my '99. I thought my night vision was failing for a couple of years until I found this board and realized that the problem was with the car. Never had a car that even came close to this bad for headlamp brightness. I'm amazed that GM has thus far escaped a recall because the situation borders on dangerous. Luckily for GM, the government idiots are even more incompetent than GM's engineering and management idiots.

Re: Headlights!

my 98's headlights really suck, and so does my night vision, or at least while driving the van. I changed mine to "super whites" but they STILL suck. Is there any kind of bulb I could switch this with and not risk burning the wiring up?
