2000 Jimmy A/C problems

Greetings. My dad has a 2000 Jimmy with an air conditioner that's recently become balky.

When he starts the car for the first time each day, the A/C blows perfectly cold. When he drives it for a bit, makes a stop and turns off the car, the A/C won't blow cold when he restarts the car -- and it won't blow cold again the rest of the day.

The next morning, when he starts the car again, the A/C blows cold ... until he shuts it off and the routine begins again.

Anybody have any ideas what's going on here? And, more important, how to fix it? Thanks in advance.

JD

Have the same problem. Went to a guy with a lot of GM repair experience. He found a defective Low Pressure Switch. Have to wait until the dealer's parts department opens Monday to get another switch.... auto parts stores don't have them. We HOPE that is the problem.

Re: Re: 2000 Jimmy A/C problems

Sure enough - Low pressure switch caused the problem. A $10 item!

I also learned that if the radiator contains the incorrect mixture of antifreeze or contains just plain water, the engine will run hot BUT the temp guage will not show that it is running hot (see owners manual). When engine is hot, the computer will not allow the A/C to come on.

Good luck with your Jimmy.
