Service Tire Monitor on 04 Silverado Ext Cab
I have a 2004 Silverado Ext cab with about 10K miles on it. I have never touched the tires, wheels, tire pressure, etc. I have been thinking about rotating the tires, but that is about it. I have never put a wrench to lug nut.
I am suddenly getting a alert on my dash that says " Service Tire Monitor". I figured I should check my tire pressure and they all read about the same 30.5. I looked in the door jam and it said they should be at 35. I have since raised the pressure in all 4 tires to 35. The light is still on. Does anyone know what this is trying to tell me? I have done a search on the forum for this message and do not see it. I dreed taking the truck to the dealer. Next time I buy a truck it will be at the dealer next door. I hate driving 15-20 miles to the dealer before I go to work then juggling rides and such. What a pain. I guess I'm spoiled living 1.5 miles from work. Any help would be greatly appreciated. acbaer

I'm not sure about your truck, but I assume it is the same as various cars that I have worked on. The system detects pressure loss based on variation in wheel speed due to change in radius. The system needs to be reset whenever you change your tire pressure. I assume based on the fact that you have a tire pressure 'monitor,' that you have the steering wheel controls, play around with those and see if it can be reset with them.

Who would have thunk it? On these vehicles with the sensors, the sensors need to be swapped over when going to aftermarket wheels. |
